Synopsis[]
After the meeting of the Diving Club, the group gather on the roof to finish their lunch. Futaba Ooki takes some pictures of some pretty clouds overhead, and muses that she has a habit of always taking pictures of wonderful things she encounters with her phone camera so that she can set them as a random screensaver and be reminded of her joyful memories every time she opens her phone.
Seeing Futaba take a photo, Ai Ninomiya tosses Futaba's phone to her brother Makoto so that he can take a group photo of the girls, but an error pops up on the phone saying that the phone's internal memory is full, and to save this new photo she'd have to delete an old one. Makoto tells her that she could just transfer the images to her phone's memory card instead of deleting them, but they wouldn't appear as a random screensaver anymore. This makes Futaba incredibly upset. The group all go home their separate ways.
In a flashback, we Futaba has just moved into her new home on the coast after moving away from Tokyo, leaving her friends behind. She calls her friends from her old middle school, Akane Mizunashi and Chizuru Himeno, who wish her happy birthday. The girls had sent her a heart-shaped phone strap as a birthday gift. Futaba reminisces that these are the first friends she ever made when they asked her to join their group for the spring school trip - before then, she had never had any friends and had spent her whole childhood on the outside looking in - as such, nothing was more important to her than these first friends she had made.
In the present day, remembering this phone call, Futaba realises that her old friendships will gradually fade and become more distant until they eventually fade away. She feels that she will be trapped in the cycle of loneliness forever, because for her all friendships are doomed to be fleeting. Having to erase these photos from her phone, or for them to not appear as her screensaver anymore, she won't be reminded of these happy memories anymore. Futaba becomes increasingly more upset, but is interrupted by a text message from Hikari asking her to meet up with her and the others at the Roadside Station in Ito Marine Town.
When she arrives the whole group is there - Hikari, Ai, Makoto, Mato Katori, and even Cha. Hikari presents a wrapped gift to Futaba as a one-month belated birthday gift. Futaba opens it to find a digital photo frame with the ability to randomly shuffle images stored in it, just like Futaba's phone - this way Futaba can clear her phone's memory while never having to delete her photos. Futaba is overwhelmed with how thoughtful the gift is and begins to cry, saying thank you over and over again - Hikari, however, says that it's them who should be thanking her, because the person who gives the gift will always be happier than the person who received it because of the time spent choosing that perfect gift and the anticipation of giving it. Futaba realises that she can't help but love this new place and these new people.
Later, Futaba looks at a picture of her and her middle school friends and is about to call them, but her school friend suddenly calls her first. Her friend tells her she was thinking of her, and was worried that she might be lonely since she has so much trouble making friends, but Futaba tells her that she's fine, and that she's made new friends that she loves.
